The previous term of Mayor Canuto S. Oreta that started in 2004 yielded the following major accomplishments:
- Year 2004
- Infrastructure for Education. 13 various school building were repaired and upgraded. A two-storey, six-classroom school building at Amang Rodriguez Elementary School was constructed.
- Government Building and Public Facilities. Renovation/rehabilitation of the portion of the Malabon City Hall Building gutted by a fire incident in June 2004.
- Road and Drainage Improvement. 2,843.15 meters of roads were upgraded. 527.10 meters of canals were rehabilitated.
- Delivery of Social Services. 8,000 Philhealth ID Cards were distributed to indigent families. More than 5,000 benefited in the Tulong at Kalinga sa Maralita Project held in December 2004.
- Health. All-out War against Dengue Project was held in 21 barangays.
- Year 2005
- Infrastructure for Education. 20 various school buildings were repaired and upgraded.
- Roads. 4,952.95 meters of roads were repaired and upgraded. 3,222.95 meters of canals were rehabilitated.
- Delivery of Social Services. A container van was converted into a day Care Center in Brgy. Longos. 40 school children from Brgys. Catmon and Concepcion were assisted to avail of the Petron Tulong Aral Scholarship. About 20,000 Primary Grade School pupils were provided with school bags and supplies through Tulong sa Mag-aaral Project. More than 20,000 indigent families benefited from the Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Tito Oreta held in December 2005. 54,672 individuals availed of various services through the Bisita Barangay Project.
- Health. Ligtas Buntis Program was initiated to protect pregnant mothers. Operation Timbang were provided to 46,224 0-59 months old infants in support of the Garantisadong Pmabata Program.
- Sports and Recreation. The First Mayor Tito Oreta Women’s Olympics was initiated.
- Employment and Livelihood. SEA-K Livelihood Assistance were made available to selected families in Brgys. Longos and Concepcion.
- Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management. A Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was established and operated at Brgy. Catmon. Seven Junk Shops in various barangays were assisted for accreditation as MRFs by the DENR.
- Year 2006
- Infrastructure for Education. 13 various school buildings were reapired and renovated.
- Roads and Drainage Improvement. 2,734.50 meters of roads were upgraded and repaired. 6,169.5 meters of canals were rehabilitated.
- Education Programs and Projects. Computer Van Aralan was launched and operated for youth computer literacy project. The City of Malabon University introduced new degree programs such as BS Journalism and BSE Major in Social Studies.
- Housing. Members of the KARISMA Homeowners Association became the beneficiaries of the Panghulo Relocation & Housing Site.
- Sports. The Mayor Tito Oreta Free Karate Training Program was launched and operated.
- Government Buildings and Public Facilities. The construction of the Malabon City Hall Building and Malabon Sports Complex (Oreta Coliseum) were initiated.
- Transportation and Communication. Oplan Disiplina which promotes traffic and road safety was launched and operated.
- Delivery of Social Services. 20,000 indigent families benefited from “Handog ni Mayor Tito sa Araw ng Mga Puso”. Lugaw sa Batang Ligaw Feeding Program for Street Children was implemented. More than 20,000 Primary grade School children were provided with school bags and supplies through “Alalay sa Mag-aaral” Project. More than 20,000 indigent families were benefited in the “Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Tito Oreta” Project. Six wheelchairs were awarded to persons with disabilities. P1,000,000 fund was allocated for Early Childhood Care and Development Program. 31 individuals from different barangays benefited from the “Tindahan Natin” Project.
Mayor Canuto S. Oreta tasked all of Malabon City Government Departments and Offices to align and plan major and innovative activities in consonance to his Six-Point Agenda of 1. Employment, Housing and Delivery of Other Social Services 2. Local Investments 3. Modernization of Infrastructures 4. Education and health 5. Peace and Order and 6. Fiscal Administration.
The Malabon City Government Six Point Agenda is based on the mayor’s vision of Malabon as: “A City triumphant over the dual forces of poverty and ecological disorder, with God-fearing, self-sufficient and secured inhabitants, where rivers run free, commerce vibrant in every avenue and the government valued by the people.” It is also based on his mission: “Be a pro-active and transparent administration strengthening the vulnerable, promoting sustainable economic growth and providing for the basic needs of the people.”
Mayor Oreta stated that his present term’s thrusts and centerpiece projects firmly supports the National Millennium Development Goals of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating infectious diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability ad developing global partnership development.
